Dr Maskery has completed his University of Lancaster NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow training and is currently progressing his clinical training specialising in Neurology. After appointment to the NIHR training programme in 2017, he undertook preclinical research using a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) in an Alzheimer's Disease model, supervised by Professor Christian Hölscher. He also completed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the role of GLP-1RAs in stroke. Dr Maskery will be pursuing his research interests through a PhD investigating the changes in the blood-brain barrier in cerebrovascular disease, as part of a multicentre EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) sponsored project.
Dr Maskery trained at the University of Manchester and subsequently completed a Masters in Clinical Research at the University of Lancaster. He is an associate of the Association of British Neurologists. Internationally, he serves on the European Academy of Neurology Scientific Panel on Stroke.
