The NIHR Lancashire Clinical Research Facility is a partnership between Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Lancaster University. Together the teams provide a unique combination of both physical and mental health research expertise.

The NIHR Lancashire Clinical Research Facility is a specialist research centre in Lancashire that brings together local NHS trusts and universities to run clinical research studies — including early‑phase trials — and lets patients and volunteers take part in cutting‑edge research close to home.

For neuroscience, this means the facility helps with studies into brain and nervous system conditions, such as stroke, neurodegenerative diseases and other neurological conditions. The team based there recruits people into regional and national studies, often exceeding recruitment targets and contributing valuable data to help improve diagnosis and treatments.

The facility also supports ambitious research partnerships, such as the 100,000 Genomes Project, and provides experienced staff and specialist space for research that may lead to new ways of understanding and treating neurological disorders.

In recent years, it has consistently attracted important research studies, making Lancashire a strong centre for neuroscience research and offering local people a chance to take part in research that could benefit future patients.
