Joel Handley

MRCP

  • Specialty Registrar in Neurology

Joel has completed his Lancaster University NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow post in Neurology and is continuing his neurology training in the North West. He has worked on an EPSRC funded study of neuronal and vascular changes in dementia under joint supervision by Dr. Laura Parkes (Reader in Neuroimaging, University of Manchester). Joel has developed this work and has been investigating the relationship between white matter lesions on MRI (a marker of small vessel cerebrovascular disease) and atrophy (thinning of brain tissue) in Alzheimer’s disease, using the ADNI (Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative) dataset. He is keen to develop his future research interests in this area. Joel has a number of other academic publications and has recently co-authored a Cochrane review on glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists for Parkinson’s disease.
