Data Science student Ellie Coulter, who is completing an MSc at Lancaster University, is undertaking a project at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to analyse an innovative direct to brain scan service for suspected central nervous system cancer. More than 1,000 patients have been referred using this pathway since it launched in late 2017, and Ellie has embarked upon an analysis, supervised by Prof Emsley, Prof Knight and Dr Sachin Mathur. Ellie will perform exploratory data analysis on the data set in order to gain insights into the pathway, build a relevant statistical model, and investigate other aspects such as the burden of incidental findings on brain scans.
